My New Photography Backdrop & How to take Better Pictures for eBay!

hello hello everyone!

I wanted to create a quick post sharing the new photo backdrop I have been using along with the quality of the product and how it is working for me. I recently wanted to step up the quality of of my listings on eBay and realized that the least expensive change I could make is in the presentation. Now my pictures have been looking very good but the backdrop was not always the same and could sometimes be distracting. I will show you a before and after picture below.

What is the cheapest way to ship clothing on eBay?

What isthe cheapest way to ship clothing on ebay

What is the cheapest way to ship clothing on eBay? I wanted to answer a question I have been asked fairly often from others just getting into selling clothing on eBay and Etsy is when I sell the item what is the cheapest was to ship it? This question really does excite me because I remember asking that question myself, and I also remember how much work it seemed like it would be getting all of the shipping supplies together to run start selling clothing online. If you found this post I hope that you were lucky enough to not have to go through all of the videos and searching that I did to find a good method of doing this. One of the main reasons that I really enjoy and prefer selling clothing on eBay is the ease of storage and shipping. The method that I use allows me to photograph the item place it in a poly-mailer or mailer and place it in a tote until it is ready to be shipped. This makes it much easier and less time intensive on the way out which in the end makes it easier for me to operate my business, essentially you are putting in more work up front and when the item needs to be shipped the only thing left to do is slap a shipping label on it and go. Enough of me talking on here is what I use to cheaply ship out all of my clothing labeled by type.

Cheapest way to ship a shirt —  Max weight = 16 ounces

The cheapest way to ship a shirt on eBay is to use a poly mailer  and ship first class. You can fit just about any shirt in one of these and they are very cheap to obtain. You can ship up to 16 ounces in weight in one of these bad boys in 2016 and it will cost you less than $4.00!  The great thing about getting these is they will ship right to your door through Amazon so you don’t have to run around to get them and if you see you are running low you can just place an order instead of having to carry a large stock.

Cheapest way to ship a Blazer, Suit, Coat, or Jeans — Anything over 160z in weight

Now this is where it gets really nice. Anything over 16 ounces that you can stuff in one of these padded flat rate envelopes will ship for a flat rate of $6.10  anywhere in the United States! I use the for all the time and the customers love them … do not be afraid to stuff blazers in these, the customers DO NOT CARE they take them to be dry cleaned when they receive the anyway and they will be wrinkled anyway you ship them. I have personally shipped over 400 blazers in these today and have not had a single complaint. Quick shipping tip if you are stuffing them make sure to use shipping tape over the self stick end so that it stays closed in transit.

What is the difference between a sport coat and a blazer?

What is the difference between a sport coat and a blazer?

What is the difference between a sport coat and a blazer?

This is a common question in the world of selling on eBay and Etsy today and I am not sure why buy I hope that I can help some sellers walk away today feeling more knowledgeable about it the next time they go out sourcing for these items.

The Sport Coat

Derived from the old tweed style coats that were worn hunting or as smoking jackets for sporting activities such as shooting clay with shotguns and other activities. They designed to be heavier in order to be a bit more durable yet still stylish and were often worn hunting in history. Sport  Coats often have very contemporary designs usually sporting interesting and eye catching patterns and the more valuable one having leather or suede patches over the shoulders and elbows. Here are some more examples of sport coats that you will see today that will sell for big profits and help you make money on eBay.

Blazers are a tad bit dressier than a sport coat however they are not as formal as a suit jacket would be. A blazer defined though history is  navy/blue/or black with gold or pewter buttons however there are now some blazers being made from other materials that are lighter or designed to be traveled with easier such as polyester or cotton. Below are some examples of some common blazers.

Suit Jacket

Last but not least the suit jacket. This is the most formal of the three options. Suit jackets are made fro, wool, cotton, and linen and are usually sold with matching pants. There are two keys to defining a suit jacket over the other two style:

1.) It is intended and sold to be worn with the matching color style of pants

2.) It is made out of a nicer fabric than than the other 2 usually over 80 thread count….this is not a rule but a general trend.

Here are some examples

Now all of these jackets can be styled with dress pants and khakis alike as long as they all compliment each other and look desirable so no jacket is ever off the market online and there will always be a buyer.

How to make money online selling clothing on eBay

How to Sell on eBay

How to Sell on eBay

So you want to know how to sell on eBay ? That is great because selling on  eBay has the potential to create serious extra income on the side or even full time. In this post I will show you some of the resources and point you in the direction of how to get started selling clothing on eBay with less than $100 in your pocket.

So the first thing most people ask is how do I sell on eBay and where do I start? If you never new this was possible to actually sell things easily on eBay then this is a big surprise for most people. The best place you can start is by selling things around the house that you are not using anymore or clothing you are not wearing anymore. (Kids, toys, Lego’s, jeans, T-Shirts, etc) This will put you in a position where you can list these items for free and get some money to start building your eBay store right from the start, and you would be surprised how many hundred of dollars you can make from some of the things you have around the house that are just sitting there! So below I will take you through the steps of getting started and some of the best practices of selling on eBay.

Step 1

If you made it hear then that means you have internet access so you can start and probably have already started researching for some way to make some extra money online and this might be exactly what you are looking for, in this post I will walk you though the sets to get started selling on eBay.

There are so many places you can go to get free and paid information to get you started selling on eBay and they are all good!

Here are some of my most recommenced free sources for getting started:

The Treasure Gnome YouTube Channel

Valet Picker YouTube Channel

Raiken Profit YouTube Channel

Cody Orgill YouTube Channel

Picking Profits YouTube Channel

Hart Pickers YouTube Channel

Bonafide Hustler YouTube Channel

These channels alone on YouTube will be more than enough to get you started from how to ship, take pictures, source and tell what is profitable they have put the time and effort into showing what is really out there to make money online with when selling on eBay.

Look at the supplies you will need in order to get started like a camera, shipping supplies, and lights to make sure you are setting you self up for success from the start. I have a list of every thing that I use on a daily bases on my resources page.

Step 2

Sign up for an eBay account at this is 100% free and you don’t pay until your item sells.

Step 3

Sign up for a Paypal account at

Step 4

Get the eBay app for you smartphone and start listing. It is super easy to list items on your phone when you start out and will work just fine until you start listing a very large amount of items. The app will allow you to take up to 12 pictures and write a brief description and categorize the item right in on place.

Step 5

Do your research!

You are able to look up any item on eBay in the search box and filter the results by items that have completed/sold listings in the last 90 days. If you are unsure you should be doing this with all of your items as it give you a very good snap of the following things:

1.) How many of these are listed

2.) How many are selling

3.) What is the average price that the item is selling at

Step 6

Try to list as much as possible within the first 30 days as you can, you need to think of it as a numbers game. If you have a sell through rate of 20% per month and you have 10 items listed on eBay based on statistics you will only sell 2-3 items. Now if you have 100 items up you have the same chance of selling per month say 20% however it does not cost you anything more but you time and now you have a chance of selling 20-30 items. Long story short list more!

Step 7

Grow! Once you start making sales you will be making some very good extra money most likely a few hundred dollars a month, instead of spending it… reinvest it in you business and make smart purchases at thrift stores or garage sales and start to take that money and double once, twice, three times and you will be able to maintain a very nice side income.

Thank you so much! I hope you enjoyed this post and if you think it was helpful please leave a comment below or better yet share this post with you friends on Facebook and Pinterest.

How to take better pictures for selling clothing on eBay

Hello everyone I wanted to do a quick post today talking about my current photography setup and how important taking good pictures can play a role in conversion rates on eBay along with  the appearance of your listings on eBay and how it affects not only sales, but also the price you are able to price your items at when selling on eBay.

Disclosure:  Please note that some of the links below are affiliate links, and at no additional cost to you, I will earn a commission if you decide to make a purchase.  Please understand that I have experience with all of these products, and I recommend them because they are helpful and useful, not because of the small commissions I make if you decide to buy something.

The first question I have for you is simple look at these two picture of the same shirt from two separate listing taken by two different sellers on eBay.

Now you can clearly see which of the two images is more appealing at a quick glance, and believe it or not these image have the same effect on the eBay or any other platform because for some reason there are large amount of people not using a  mannequin or even taking good pictures of their items.

Well it’s really not that hard to take good pictures for your eBay listings and it will only take a small investment to get the proper lighting and mannequin needed to do so. I have my top recommended items over at my resources page of the tools I use daily when taking pictures for my eBay listings, and that would be a good starting point.

The first area that will help you improve your listings is lighting

Above is the lighting setup that I use for my setup and below is the the format that it is setup for taking pictures.  The two umbrellas help to really bring out the color and put some good shadows out on the piece of clothing and the white wall/backdrop serves as a good background to help the item colors pop.

The second area of focus is the mannequin

Now some may argue that you don’t need this, however I remember what my pictures used to look like, when I had them on the floor, on a hanger, and on the back of the door. You see things like this in others eBay listings almost daily and it is so easy to stand out by changing just a few things and for under $100 and it will allow you to demand a higher prices and have a better conversion rate.

I recommend a dress form like the one above over a cheaper wall hanging one. Both with be a huge improvement however with the dress form there is more bulk to it which in this case is good! It helps to fill the shirt out like there was and actual person wearing it and gives it a more realistic presentation.

There are a few other things I could get into like cropping and adjusting the pictures color in the eBay editor itself along with taking pictures from different angles but that is going deeper than I can go into in one small post and I will possibly do some photography tips in the future.

Thanks again for reading and you liked this article please share it and subscribe for more!

How to properly measure a sport coat or blazer for selling on eBay

So I have seen a healthy amount of questions on periscope and You Tube lately regarding the exact process and way to measure a sport coat, so i thought what the hell I will do a quick post about it and try to help clear it up and put the information out there as a reference for others in the future. Really when I go to measure and list a sport coat, jacket or blazer the measuring is one of the more tedious tasks involved and not only because you have to take the measurements but you also have to record them in another location like a spreadsheet or a piece of paper so it can be used later in your eBay listing.

Cutting to the chase I will keep this short and sweet here are the main things to know when measuring a sport coat or blazer for eBay.

Have a good template and that is easy to read for your customer, If you do not have a template for your eBay listing I am sharing a free template with you right now. This is a link to a google drive doc that i use for ALL of my listings.

Measure to the spec in this picture and remember even if it sport coat or blazer does not have a size tag on it and it is a good brand, PICK IT UP because you will now know how to size it correctly.

Measure all of the items on the image shown and include them in every listing, this will help reduce questions from customers as well as reducing returns. Even if the jacket has a size tag remember it could have been tailored after the fact for a size change.

Here are the correct descriptions on the measurements for the listing and please note that i do not include measurement C for the waist however you could if you wish.

(B)Chest: 48” (From underarm seam across chest to underarm seam, then doubled)
*Your chest should measure 2″ smaller than chest size, not jacket size, for a good fit
(E)Sleeves: 32″ (Shoulder seam to tip of sleeve)
(D)Shoulder: 20″ (Shoulder seam across the back to shoulder seam)
(A)Length: 32″ (Bottom of collar down)
Closure: 3 Button
Sleeve : 3 Button
Vents: Single
