How to take better pictures for selling clothing on eBay

Hello everyone I wanted to do a quick post today talking about my current photography setup and how important taking good pictures can play a role in conversion rates on eBay along with  the appearance of your listings on eBay and how it affects not only sales, but also the price you are able to price your items at when selling on eBay.

Disclosure:  Please note that some of the links below are affiliate links, and at no additional cost to you, I will earn a commission if you decide to make a purchase.  Please understand that I have experience with all of these products, and I recommend them because they are helpful and useful, not because of the small commissions I make if you decide to buy something.

The first question I have for you is simple look at these two picture of the same shirt from two separate listing taken by two different sellers on eBay.

Now you can clearly see which of the two images is more appealing at a quick glance, and believe it or not these image have the same effect on the eBay or any other platform because for some reason there are large amount of people not using a  mannequin or even taking good pictures of their items.

Well it’s really not that hard to take good pictures for your eBay listings and it will only take a small investment to get the proper lighting and mannequin needed to do so. I have my top recommended items over at my resources page of the tools I use daily when taking pictures for my eBay listings, and that would be a good starting point.

The first area that will help you improve your listings is lighting

Above is the lighting setup that I use for my setup and below is the the format that it is setup for taking pictures.  The two umbrellas help to really bring out the color and put some good shadows out on the piece of clothing and the white wall/backdrop serves as a good background to help the item colors pop.

The second area of focus is the mannequin

Now some may argue that you don’t need this, however I remember what my pictures used to look like, when I had them on the floor, on a hanger, and on the back of the door. You see things like this in others eBay listings almost daily and it is so easy to stand out by changing just a few things and for under $100 and it will allow you to demand a higher prices and have a better conversion rate.

I recommend a dress form like the one above over a cheaper wall hanging one. Both with be a huge improvement however with the dress form there is more bulk to it which in this case is good! It helps to fill the shirt out like there was and actual person wearing it and gives it a more realistic presentation.

There are a few other things I could get into like cropping and adjusting the pictures color in the eBay editor itself along with taking pictures from different angles but that is going deeper than I can go into in one small post and I will possibly do some photography tips in the future.
